According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have been linked with Lucas Stassin, Emil Holm and Lutsharel Geertruida, with Porto reportedly in concrete talks for Stassin.

The 21-year-old Saint-Etienne striker hit 11 goals and eight assists in 31 Ligue 2 matches last season. Saint-Etienne are said to want €35 million plus €7 million in add-ons, roughly £29.9 million plus £6 million, about £35.9 million in total.

Porto are understood to be progressing discussions for the Belgian, which could complicate matters if Sunderland firm up interest. The Portuguese side won the league title last season and can offer a major European platform.

Sunderland could still appeal as the step he is seeking, with a Premier League campaign ahead under Régis Le Bris and Europa League football next season. Stassin has risen through Belgium’s youth sides and has been capped at senior level, fitting the club’s model of signings with upside and resale value.

The Black Cats are also working on defence, with Florent Ghisolfi aiming to lower RB Leipzig loanee Lutsharel Geertruida’s price. The Dutchman is rated at around £20 million and is currently at the World Cup.

Sunderland are among the admirers of Bologna’s Swedish international Emil Holm, who spent last season on loan at Juventus. Holm is valued in the £10 million to £20 million range, and the club bought effectively in that bracket last season with Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete.
