Sunderland have secured Europa League football and are exploring summer reinforcements, with reports indicating interest in Liverpool and England midfielder Harvey Elliott after a limited loan at Aston Villa.

“Some of the promoted clubs, possibly even Sunderland, is something I’ve been hearing as to where he might be going. We’ll see where that all ends up.” He was speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Regis Le Bris’ side finished seventh after Sunday’s impressive display against Chelsea, sealing only the second European qualification in the club’s history. Celebrations followed at the Stadium of Light.

Elliott, 23, joined Villa in the final days of the summer window and has made nine appearances under Unai Emery, with three starts. He is preparing to return to Anfield.

The report suggested he could be available for around £25m. A heavier schedule next season means the squad will need to be bolstered as Sunderland prepare for UEFA’s secondary competition, where potential opponents include AC Milan, Juventus, Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen.
