Sunderland have been linked with Paraguay midfielder Matias Galarza after the World Cup flashpoint involving Kylian Mbappe. The Black Cats are one of several European sides mentioned.
SportDog reports that Olympiakos and Getafe are leading the chase for the 24-year-old, with Monza and Strasbourg also in the frame, while Sunderland have shown an interest.
Galarza drew attention for a first-half coming together with Mbappe, which pundit Joe Hart suggested could have been a red card.
Paraguay’s campaign ended in the round of 16 against France, decided by a Mbappe penalty. Gustavo Alfaro started Omar Alderete and former Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron.
Paraguay’s approach drew criticism after full-time. Didier Deschamps said he would not criticise the referee or Paraguay, and said he could do without the insults. He added the key thing was there were no incidents and that France had qualified.
Galarza plays for CA Talleres and previously spent two years with Genk, making qualifying appearances in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. He has more than two years remaining on his contract in Argentina.
