Sunderland are exploring overseas additions as updates emerge on Lutsharel Geertruida and Dan Neil ahead of a busy summer. According to Sunderland Echo, Florent Ghisolfi is preparing significant business to bolster Régis Le Bris’ squad for Premier League and Europa League demands.
Sunderland are among the clubs linked with Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic. Reports in Italy say Roma have reopened contacts over the Bosnia youth international after approval from Gian Piero Gasperini, and he impressed last season with Salzburg and his national team, prompting Leverkusen to activate a buy-back retained after selling him last summer.
Sunderland are also named among teams to have made enquiries for Grêmio defender Viery. Reports in Brazil claim Roma, Tottenham, Newcastle and Brighton, as well as Sunderland, sent representatives to Porto Alegre to watch the 21-year-old, with Fiorentina and Juventus said to have had approaches rejected.
De Telegraaf reports that Geertruida would have considered a Feyenoord return if Robin van Persie had remained as manager, but that option appears less likely following his departure. The defender spent last season on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig and his temporary deal has now ended.
Oxford United, Wigan Athletic and York City are reportedly competing to sign Sunderland defender Zak Johnson. TEAMtalk says Hull City are weighing up a move for former Sunderland captain Dan Neil, with Rangers in active discussions and hopeful of a deal, while Hull could enter the race and frustrate Middlesbrough and Rangers.
