Sunderland have reportedly become the latest Premier League club to show interest in Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Sunderland Interested in Matteo Guendouzi

According to RMC Sport, Sunderland have enquired about Guendouzi who is an old pupil of their manager, Regis Le Bris. The midfielder worked under the 49-year-old tactician during his time with Lorient’s U17 side. The France international went on to represent Arsenal, Schalke, and Marseille before joining Lazio in the summer of 2023.

The 26-year-old is now considered a true protagonist for the Biancocelesti, and Maurizio Sarri is determined to maintain his services. But as the source explains, Sunderland will be hoping to pounce on Lazio’s well-documented financial crisis to poach the midfielder’s services.

French Connection

In addition to Le Bris, Guendouzi will also find other compatriots at the Stadium of Light, including former Roma midfielder Enzo Le Fee, and the Giallorossi’s former sporting director Florent Ghisolfi who has recently joined Sunderland. But it remains to be seen if he would find the project suitable for his ambitions.
