Sunderland have taken steps to ease season-ticket renewal concerns, with several supporters offered resolutions after direct contact from the club.
According to Sunderland Echo, issues had included long-serving fans being unable to switch from corporate packages back to general admission, alongside direct debit and ticketing problems. The club told supporter group RAWA it would review individual cases and get in touch, and not every case has been settled yet.
One case involved Steven Poppleton, who has followed the club for 40 years and held a season ticket for 20 years. He sought a move from the premium 76 Yards area to general admission after the death of his father, George, whose mobility issues were a factor in the family upgrading.
Mr Poppleton said he was initially told to join the waiting list despite his long service. After his case was highlighted and raised by RAWA, he said the club called on Friday to apologise and offered general admission tickets.
He added that RAWA used his case in last week’s meeting and advised the club to provide a resolution by close of play on Monday. He thanked the Branch Liaison Council for persistent support, and expressed gratitude for publicity while hoping others in similar positions are helped.
Other supporters have since received positive updates during the renewal process. In at least one instance, this included next season ticket access and recognition of existing loyalty discounts.
Not every case is resolved, but the recent movement suggests concerns raised by fans and groups are now being addressed.
