Sunderland, Newcastle United and Forest ‘linked’ to £50m Bergvall, but no deal agreed | OneFootball

Claims that Sunderland have an agreement in place for Lucas Bergvall are understood to be inaccurate, with no deal currently agreed.

Football Insider had suggested the Black Cats submitted an offer before striking a deal, with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest also said to hold an interest. That portrayal does not reflect Sunderland’s present transfer position.

Bergvall would be a bold target for Régis Le Bris’ side. The 20-year-old is valued at around £50million and Tottenham are likely to demand the strongest terms given his age and profile. He joined from Djurgården in 2024 and later signed a long-term contract to 2031, which leaves the London club in a firm negotiating position.

Able to play in several central midfield roles, he is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s most exciting young players. His age, technical quality and potential resale value appear to align with Sunderland’s recruitment model on paper, and further additions are expected before the summer window closes.

Thomas Meunier remains the only senior arrival so far, while Florent Ghisolfi has indicated a more measured approach after last summer’s extensive overhaul. For now, suggestions of a full agreement for Bergvall can be dismissed, and the midfielder is not currently on his way to the Stadium of Light.
