Sunderland have reached an agreement in principle to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele according to RMC Sports journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

Mukiele is out of favour at PSG having spent last term on loan in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old one-time France international will now be plying his trade in the Premier League with Sunderland.

However, he could be unavailable for their opening game of the season at home to West Ham United tomorrow.

The Black Cats have signed numerous players this summer including Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra and Granit Xhaka.

Mukiele brings much-needed experience and quality to the table for Sunderland having played over 200 games across Ligue 1 and Bundesliga.

He last played for France in 2021 and a move to the Premier League could boost his chances of forcing his way back into the star-studded national team if he impresses this term.

Sunderland need a strong squad to compete in the top flight and more quality additions could be on the cards during the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

They will fancy their chances of staying up if most of their new signings hit the ground running when the campaign starts.
