Harrison Jones, Timur Tutierov and Zak Johnson are expected to be listed as retained, which may cause confusion, but their inclusion does not indicate long-term plans.

The expectation remains that the trio will move on, with Sunderland seeking to protect value rather than release them outright. Potential exits could involve a small fee or a sell-on clause, which explains their presence on the retained list.

Jones has interest from League One, League Two and Scotland. The local midfielder has been around the senior set-up during a successful spell, but the Premier League step has altered pathways for several youngsters.
