Sunderland have dismissed claims they opened talks over a £40m move for AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun.
Sunderland Echo understands that club sources have firmly denied any discussions and say no talks have taken place.
The club’s stance is that there are no active negotiations regarding Balogun. Régis Le Bris and the recruitment team continue to assess potential additions as they shape the squad for the new campaign.
Reports elsewhere suggested a significant transfer was being explored, a fee of around £40m would have ranked among the biggest in the club’s history and drew attention among supporters. As it stands, there is no substance to suggestions that Sunderland have entered talks.
The window can shift quickly, and Sunderland are expected to stay active before the deadline, particularly with the extra demands of European football. The club have shown they will invest when the right player and deal align, yet they have distanced themselves from the latest Balogun speculation and there has been no contact from their side.
