Sunderland have agreed a deal worth up to £17.5m for Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo (22), BBC Sport reports.

The Black Cats have reached an agreement with the Belgian club on an initial £15m fee, with a further £2.5m in performance-related add-ons, for the highly rated Ecuador international. Angulo arrives with a growing reputation as one of the Jupiler Pro League’s most exciting wide players, combining pace, directness, and end product.

The move comes despite Angulo having only signed a contract extension with Anderlecht in September 2025. Angulo leaves Belgium after three and a half seasons, during which he has steadily developed into a key figure, registering 15 goal contributions in 30 appearances across all competitions this campaign.

Angulo has also established himself on the international stage, making his senior Ecuador debut in October 2021 in a friendly against Mexico, and has since remained on the radar of national team selectors.

His arrival signals Sunderland’s intent to add greater cutting edge in wide areas as they continue to build for the present and future. There is also movement in the opposite direction, with winger Simon Adingra set to join AS Monaco on loan, a deal that includes an option to make the move permanent.
