Sunderland striker Brobbey achieves rare World Cup feat | OneFootball

Brian Brobbey is having a World Cup to remember after a brilliant start to the 2026 tournament for The Netherlands.

Brobbey started the Dutch’s opening game on the bench, but has took his chance since being called into the side by Ronald Koeman.

The Sunderland striker scored twice as the Netherlands thrashed Sweden 5-1 in their second game, before finding the target again against Tunisia, as the Oranje sealed top spot in Group F.

Brobbey has now scored three goals in just 154 minutes at the World Cup, having netted only once in 12 previous caps before the tournament.

Incredibly, Opta have reported that Brobbey is only the third player on record (since 1966) to score with each of his first-ever three shots at the FIFA World Cup.

Laszlo Kiss was the first to achieve the feat for Hungary in 1982, before Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina matched the achievement in 2018.

The 24-year-old’s ruthless efficiency has given the Dutch a cutting edge.
