Sunderland are set to post record revenues after promotion, with Premier League income projected to surpass their previous high.

According to Football Insider, the 2024-25 accounts show revenue rising from £38.2m to £40.3m in their promotion-winning season, and current top-flight earnings are on course to beat the £126m record set in 2016-17.

Régis Le Bris’s side sit 11th after a dramatic 2-1 win at St James’s Park. Maintaining that position could see Sunderland earn more than £130m in prize and broadcast revenue.

Such growth would bolster long-term sustainability and transfer capacity as the club refines its recruitment model under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi. Premier League distributions mean even mid-table finishes deliver substantial returns.

The derby victory sparked buoyant scenes. Brian Brobbey’s late winner triggered a viral moment as he took off his shirt in front of the Newcastle supporters, then beat his chest.

“Not for that. I trained hard, yeah, I trained very hard,” he said. “I have been to the gym a lot. Naturally, I was very happy. It’s a derby.” He told ESPN.

“No, that doesn’t have to have anything to do with the Netherlands at all. I was just very happy.”
