Progress has already brought a windfall. Their third-round win was worth £121,500, while even defeat at that stage would have yielded £26,500. Victory in the fourth round would add £127,000, with rewards climbing sharply thereafter.

The draw offers a chance to build momentum in a competition Sunderland have rarely gone deep in recently. Selected fourth-round ties could be televised, generating additional income, with broadcast picks expected nearer the weekend.

Régis Le Bris has moved to ease concern over Brian Brobbey, explaining the striker’s withdrawal during the extra-time interval was precautionary after hamstring tightness. Bertrand Traoré is a doubt for Crystal Palace’s visit next weekend, while Reinildo Mandava could return and Noah Sadiki completed 120 minutes on his comeback from AFCON.

Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi will miss the Palace game, with Senegal and Morocco into the AFCON semi-finals. They are set to feature in either the third-place play-off next Saturday or the final next Sunday, depending on results.
