Sunderland return to Premier League action at the Stadium of Light on Friday night against Nottingham Forest, with mixed team news on both sides.

As reported by Sunderland Echo, both head coaches, Régis Le Bris and Vitor Pereira, provided injury updates at Thursday’s press conferences after some encouraging signs on the training ground this week.

Omar Alderete has recovered from the illness that forced him off in the second half last weekend. He is in contention to start and could resume his partnership with Dan Ballard.

For Forest, Callum Hudson-Odoi has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign after surgery on a quad problem.

Dan Ndoye, who missed the Burnley match last weekend, should be available for this fixture. That would be a lift following Hudson-Odoi’s setback.

Murillo sustained an injury last weekend and, although there had been hope of a swift return, featuring on Friday now appears unlikely.
