Sunderland’s stunning Premier League return has them eyeing Europe, and, per Transfermarkt, here are the Black Cats’ top 10 most valuable players and how the squad stacks up against their rivals.
Momentum from a Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United and a shrewd summer window set the tone. On opening day they beat West Ham United at a sold-out Stadium of Light, with Eliezer Mayenda, Wilson Isidor and Dan Ballard scoring.
Results kept coming, including victories over Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, plus draws with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. The standout feat has been a league double over Newcastle United, sealed by a Nick Woltemade own goal in December and a 2-1 win on Tyneside earlier this month through Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey.
Top 10 by market value: Habib Diarra €32.00m, Noah Sadiki €30.00m, Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi and Chris Rigg all €25.00m, Trai Hume €22.00m, Lutsharel Geertruida and Dan Ballard €20.00m, and Nordi Mukiele €18.00m.
Across the Premier League table of squad values, Manchester City lead at €1.31bn, followed by Arsenal €1.23bn, Chelsea €1.16bn and Liverpool €1.02bn. Sunderland sit 16th on €381.95m, ahead of West Ham, Leeds United, Wolves and Burnley, with Burnley bottom at €252.65m.
Seven games remain as Le Bris’ side chase a top-seven finish that would bring European football for only the second time in their history and the first since 1973. Sunderland visit Aston Villa, Wolves and Everton, and host Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea.
