Opta's supercomputer has predicted how the final 2025/26 League Two table may look...
The respective promotion and relegation battles are both heating up at opposing ends of the League Two table as we head towards the latter stages of the 2025/26 campaign, which will conclude on May 2nd.
There have been a selection of notable surprise packages throughout English football's fourth-tier, with shocks, twists and turns invariably thrown up year-on-year.
Underdogs will be bidding to defy the odds towards the higher echelons of the table, where four sides can clinch promotion to League One while several sides face the threat of losing their EFL status and will find themselves scrambling in a bid to avoid relegation out of League Two and into the fifth-tier.
The current table, of course, is subject to significant change before May rolls around, though Opta's supercomputer has offered a prediction on how the standings may appear once the final whistle is blown on the season - and Football League World takes a look at what could be in store...

It's no surprise to see that Opta have predicted Harrogate Town to finish at the bottom of the Football League, with a return to the National League looming for Simon Weaver's side.
Harrogate have consistently punched above their weight with a collection of mid-table finishes following a first-ever promotion to League Two in 2020.
However, the Suplhurites are now trending in the opposite direction and are already finding themselves at risk of being cut adrift in the battle for fourth-tier survival. It would take something unprecedented for Harrogate to turn the campaign around, and Opta predicts the North Yorkshire-based side to wind up some 10 points off safety.

Newport County have endured a bitterly-disappointing season and Opta predicts that Christian Fuchs will fall short in his efforts of keeping the Exiles afloat in the Football League.
Ex-Leicester City stalwart Fuchs replaced David Hughes at Rodney Parade back in November but is yet to get Newport going, and after dodging the drop with a 22nd-place finish in the previous campaign, Opta's view is that the Welsh side will have no such luck this time around and can expect their 13-year stay in League Two to come to an end.
During that time, Newport have battled for promotion and against relegation - it's been a rollercoaster period for the club, who may now have to reset in the National League.

Just staving off a second relegation in as many seasons is Shrewsbury Town, who have been predicted by Opta to finish five points clear of Newport in 22nd.
There's a lot of unrest behind the scenes, and Salop have nosedived in recent times.
However, it's believed that they will avoid yet another relegation after falling out of League One last term, despite finding themselves in trouble at the wrong-end of the table once more.

Barrow are also battling to avoid a return to the National League, and Opta predicts that they will be successful in their bid after replacing Andy Whing with former Leicester and Preston North End star Paul Gallagher - who is taking his first senior managerial gig at Holker Stadium.
The Bluebirds are another side to have generally punched above their weight in recent years with numerous top-half finishes, though the boat has been rocked with relegation worry this term.

It's been an underwhelming return to League Two for Crawley Town, who, much like Shrewsbury, have been competing at the bottom-end of the table as opposed to fighting to get promoted back to League One.
There's a lot of talent for Scott Lindsay to work with, though - and Opta predicts that they'll finish with their heads above the water.

All but one of the relegated outfits from League One in the 2024/25 season have struggled to dust off the cobwebs of disappointment and shake off that losing mentality, with Bristol Rovers yet another example.
Expectations were high when the Gasheads re-appointed Darrell Clarke, but Rovers flattered to deceive under his leadership and are now beginning to show signs of life under Steve Evans.
There will be long-term excitement about what Evans can do at the Memorial Stadium, but for now, Opta is simply predicting a relatively-comfortable route to survival, with the Pirates pulling away from the likes of Harrogate and Newport.

Cheltenham Town were in freefall and appeared doomed at the start of the season, although club legend Steve Cotterill has turned things around after replacing Michael Flynn, with the side having been rooted to the foot of the table at the time.
There's already solid distance between the Robins and the relegation zone, and Opta predicts that Town will continue kicking on towards safety.

Another middling campaign of mid-table mediocrity just away from relegation worry is in order for Tranmere Rovers, who have not recorded a top-seven finish since the 2020/21 term.
Supporters have grown disgruntled with a lack of progression in recent years, but Opta is not predicting such fortunes to pick up in what remains of the current campaign with a tipped final position of 17th.

Oldham Athletic, meanwhile, have enjoyed a solid and steady campaign upon their return to League Two, having ended a three-year exile by winning the National League play-offs last time out.
They've grown in confidence under Micky Mellon over the course of the season, with Opta predicting an eventual finish in 16th.

There's nothing too exciting in store for Fleetwood Town, who are yet to kick on towards promotion contention since their 10-year stay in League One came to an end in the 2023/24 season.
It has been a mixed old season for the Cod Army, and Opta has predicted that interim boss Matt Lawlor will guide the side to a comfortable mid-table finish after succeeding Pete Wild.
