La Liga giants Barcelona have on Monday announced an altogether surprising development on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that Andrés Cuenca is set to remain on the club’s books.

Youngster Cuenca has for his part taken his place centre stage in the transfer chatter in Catalunya’s capital over the last couple of weeks.

As much comes after widespread reports were forthcoming, confirming that the 18-year-old was on the verge of a permanent move to Serie A with Como.

Widely considered a future star in the making, news of as much did not go down at all well with those of a Barcelona persuasion.

Such supporters, in turn, will no doubt be delighted by the latest developments surrounding Cuenca’s future on Monday.

As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with player Andrés Cuenca to renew his contract with the Club, which was due to expire on June 30, for another season, until June 30 2027.’

Cuenca has also secured an immediate loan exit, joining Sporting Gijón on loan through the summer.
