The Swans have an opportunity to pounce in the final hour of the window.
Swansea City are set to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson before today's 7pm transfer deadline.
Alan Sheehan's side have less than an hour left to advance any prospective deals to the requisite point before the clock strikes seven and their opportunities to sign or get rid of players ends.
Benson is a player that they are pushing for at the last minute. The 28-year-old winger was linked with a move to the Welsh side earlier today by Gareth Vincent. Soon after it was revealed that Championship high-rollers Birmingham City were also keen on the Angolan. Scottish champions Celtic had also been linked.
The Burnley player was not the primary target of Chris Davies' side though. They have been pushing all day to turn their interest in Celtic's Hyunjun Yang into a permanent deal that was going to cost the former Hoops assistant around £3 million, as per Sky Sports.
That deal has subsequently fell through and created a domino effect that has allowed Swansea to swoop in and sign Benson from Burnley.
According to Anthony Joseph, Celtic viewed the Clarets' player as a replacement option for their Korean winger. When his move to St Andrew's collapsed, the need to bring in Benson went with it, leaving an open lane for City to go in and sign the Premier League player.
Swansea are now expected to complete a deal for Benson, as per The Telegraph's Mike McGrath, alongside the signing of Celtic striker Adam Idah.
Benson has just less than a couple of years left on his deal with the Clarets, leaving both a permanent and a temporary switch to Swansea on the table. Time is running out, though, for them to complete this move.
His only full season in the second tier (the 2022/23 campaign), and maiden campaign with Burnley, resulted in Benson notching 11 goals and three assists.
His time at Turf Moor hasn't been as profitable since then. He has made just 11 appearances in league matches since he won the Championship with his parent club, so it'll probably take him a decent bit of time to get fully up to speed with first-team football again.
For Swansea, he adds further depth to an area of the squad that isn't quite yet brimming with options, but the cupboard is by no means bare either. If he can return to his levels from a few years ago, City will have a top option on their hands.
