Switzerland’s disrupted World Cup preparation continued on Monday as a wildfire broke out near their Southern California base, though the team hotel was not evacuated.

The blaze was contained by evening local time after California firefighters, supported by helicopters, intervened. According to ATS, the Swiss FA said FIFA is monitoring the situation and had so far assured there was no problem for the team.

The fire was reported at 09:30 in the Sorrento Valley, less than 10 km from the Nati’s camp. Some residential areas of San Diego were cleared, but Murat Yakin’s players were able to train.

The episode followed earlier disruption involving snakes during their stay, underlining a turbulent build-up in the United States.

Switzerland begin their Group B campaign on Saturday against Qatar, kick-off 21:00.
