The intensity of FC Bayern’s preseason preparations is noticeably increasing. Now that the DFB stars and World Cup returnees have rejoined team training, Vincent Kompany is able to work with nearly his entire squad. The Belgian is using this opportunity to significantly ramp up the pace of training.

At the training camp on Lake Tegernsee, intensive scrimmages were on the agenda on Wednesday. The final 11-on-11 scrimmage, in particular, demanded everything from the pros. Kompany loudly directed the session and repeatedly intervened with clear instructions.

As reported by BILD, the Bayern coach cheered on his team particularly energetically during a one-on-one duel. Addressing center back Kim Minjae, Kompany shouted: “Minjae, take him down!”

The remark referred to a duel with young player Vincent Manuba. Kompany then turned directly to the youngster and asked with a wink, “Are you scared?!”

The scene illustrates the standards the 40-year-old is setting during preseason training. Every tackle should be contested with maximum intensity, regardless of whether an experienced pro or a young player is on the other end.

Over the past few days, it has been clear that Kompany places great emphasis on a high level of training and repeatedly coaches his team vocally.

The intense practice match ultimately ended in a narrow 1-0 victory.

Arijon Ibrahimovic scored the decisive goal, once again earning himself more playing time in preseason. The forward wants to firmly establish himself in the first-team squad following his return to the record champions and is currently seizing every opportunity to make his mark.

With the return of numerous national team players, Kompany now has significantly more personnel options at his disposal. Competition within the squad is thus continuing to intensify—which seems to be exactly what the Bayern coach wants for the decisive phase of preseason.

The Munich team has only a few weeks left until the start of competitive play. Accordingly, Kompany is likely to maintain the high level of training to prepare his team optimally for the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup and the start of the Bundesliga season.
