Takumi Minamino has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Monaco confirmed the diagnosis on Monday after he was taken off on a stretcher in the 36th minute during Sunday’s Coupe de France round of 64 against AJ Auxerre, which Monaco won 2-1.

It is a major blow for Monaco.

The 30-year-old Japan international is expected to be sidelined for several months and to miss the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

He has scored 4 goals and supplied 3 assists in 21 appearances for Monaco in all competitions this season.

Minamino has 73 caps and 26 goals for Japan.
