Liverpool and Chelsea are likely to be in the mix for the transfer of Lyon winger Malick Fofana, as first reported here in my exclusive for the Daily Briefing.

Fofana has established himself as one of the top young talents in Europe at the moment, and his representatives are seeking a big move for him next summer.

Lyon are surely not going to be able to keep hold of Fofana for much longer, and his agent has been vocal about getting him to a club like Liverpool.

Chelsea are also keen on Fofana as they look to continue strengthening in attacking midfield, though the 20-year-old is not necessarily their priority target as they look at a few others in that position.

Malick Fofana transfer situation explained

Fofana surely won’t be short of suitors if he leaves as expected, and it seems Lyon have been made aware that the plan is for him to move.

One imagines the Ligue 1 giants won’t let him go on the cheap, but top clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea can afford to pay big money for the best talents.

Stamford Bridge could be an appealing destination due to their record of recruiting and developing elite young players, but LFC is also arguably the more convincing project.

The Reds spent big on new attacking signings last summer but could be tempted by Fofana if they can’t land other targets such as Michael Olise and Antoine Semenyo, who have been linked with Arne Slot’s side by the Daily Mail.

Olise and Semenyo are more proven at the highest level, so might be the more tempting options for now, but Fofana is surely going to be one to watch for the future, especially as he’s clearly keen on securing a big move as soon as possible.
