Vasco have added Mehdi Taremi to their striker shortlist, but the Iran forward is not interested in playing in Brazilian football at present, according to Globo.com. The club are also working to close deals for Nelson Deossa and Santiago Sosa.

Taremi is currently at Olympiacos in Greece. He has the approval of Vasco's football leadership and is well known to director Admar Lopes and head coach Pedro Emanuel, both formerly of Porto.

Between 2020 and 2024 he delivered 138 goal contributions in 182 appearances for Porto. That impact led to Inter Milan, where he served as back-up to Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez.

The Iran international, who featured at the 2026 World Cup, is in the final year of his Olympiacos contract. Any Brazilian bid would also have to contend with the high salary he earns in Europe, with Botafogo talks in 2025 stalling over wages.

A centre forward is now Vasco's top market priority. Brenner and Spinelli remain in the squad but neither has found form this season, and the club are open to negotiating Brenner in this window while targeting a starting No nine for the second half of the year.
