Tariq Lamptey: Ex-Chelsea and Brighton defender joins QPR after Fiorentina exit | OneFootball

Tariq Lamptey has joined Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer. According to NY Times, the 25-year-old right-back arrives after his Fiorentina contract was ended by mutual consent in May.

He played just 25 minutes across two appearances for the Serie A side before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee against Como in September. He did not play again for Fiorentina.

A Chelsea academy graduate, he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal in December 2019, joined Brighton the following month and made more than 120 appearances before moving to Italy last summer.

QPR chief executive Christian Nourry said Lamptey chose the club despite interest from other Championship sides and teams abroad, calling his arrival a sign of the west London club’s growing potential.

Lamptey said he is excited by the opportunity and that talks with head coach Julian Stephan and Nourry left him encouraged by the project. He added the team have ambitious goals for this season.

The Ghana international has 11 caps and played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He is continuing his rehabilitation and QPR expect him to be available for selection in September.
