The March international break is not too far away and it is that time of the month when international managers start naming their squad. Luis de la Fuente is set to announce his Spain squad for the UEFA Nations League games against the Netherlands this Friday.
Over the years, there has always been a strong correlation between FC Barcelona and Spain doing well since a number of players in the Catalan club are homegrown and their good form often spills on to the national stage as well.
With Barcelona in one of their best moments in a long time, as per Mundo Deportivo, a plethora of players from the current team are in reckoning for a Spain call-up with Luis de la Fuente set to make decisions today.
The report reveals that there are 10 players from Barcelona with a good chance of making the Spanish team for the Nations League games. These include: Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martínez, Alejandro Balde, Casado, Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal.
Then, there is also the case of Eric Garcia who is not quite at the same level but just a rung below them in terms of chances of selection and has made it to the preliminary list after a very good run of form at club level in recent months.
Major changes are expected in defence with both Dani Vivian and Aymeric Laporte not available. This could see a recall for Inigo Martinez for the first time since 2023 while both Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth and Raul Asencio of Real Madrid are in line for a first call-up.
Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal are expected to make it to the line-up in all likelihood whereas Luis de la Fuente also has to make a decision on Marc Casado who impressed in the last international break.
Both Alejandro Balde and Gavi are looking to return to the squad after long injury lay-offs and the former in particular has been one of the very best in his position since the start of 2025 and deserves a chance in Luis de la Fuente’s setup.
Finally, the Spanish tactician will have to make a decision on Fermin Lopez who made it to his Euros squad. Ultimately, it remains to be seen how many of these 11 names from Barcelona make it to La Roja’s squad and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
