Terrão lads star as Corinthians beat Capivariano in Paulistão

On the night of last Thursday (5th), Corinthians faced Capivariano in a match valid for the sixth round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship at the Neo Química Arena and triumphed with a score of 3-0. The goals for the Corinthians team were scored by midfielder Dieguinho, as well as forwards Gui Negão and Kayke, all in the second half. The three points placed the Alvinegro in fourth position on the overall table with 11 points (three wins, two draws, and one loss – nine goals scored and five conceded).

About a day after the match, Corinthians TV – the club's official YouTube channel – released behind-the-scenes footage of the victory, including a brief moment where defender Gabriel Paulista displays the Supercopa do Brasil trophy, won against Flamengo last Sunday in Brasília, to the Corinthians fans. The video starts by showing details of the three Alvinegro goals and then depicts the players' arrival at the Arena heading to the locker room, in a relaxed tone due to the team's good form.

Subsequently, the players went to the Arena pitch to perform their pre-game warm-up. Upon returning, in the huddle before going back on the field for the match, coach Dorival Júnior and defender André Ramalho offered words of encouragement and assertiveness against the opponent. The number 5, along with market manager Renan Bloise, emphasized the importance of the three points aiming for an early qualification to the knockout stage and the possibility of deciding the games in Itaquera.

Additionally, right-back Matheuzinho stated that winning the match was an obligation and asked for the team's energy on the field to be the same as during the Supercopa do Brasil victory: “Today the energy has to be the same as Sunday. Final energy! Everyone focused! With all due respect to Capivariano. Corinthians cannot lose at home to them. It has to be like Memphis said. Score one, score two, score three, score four. We need this,” he commented.

Midfielder Raniele then added: “I don't know if you saw the phrase Luiz wrote on the board yesterday, saying that the lion is the king of the jungle because he attacks the zebra and he attacks the lion. Relate this to our lives, we don't care if it's Cruzeiro, Palmeiras, or Capivariano, who cares! Whoever wants to be a champion beats everyone! Go full force on everyone.”

After the final whistle, forward Kayke, who scored the third goal, spoke about the play, highlighting his precise finish and mentioning the setup with Memphis Depay, who just set it up for the Filho do Terrão to close the score. It was his first goal as a professional: “It's the result of a lot of work. Thank God, today I was very happy and made a play with Memphis. He set it up nicely for me. And I think I have this characteristic of being able to finish, and I pushed myself a lot to finish more from outside the area because I finish well. And now I thank God because I was very happy, and it's a night that will be marked for the rest of my life.”

Similarly, number 31, midfielder Dieguinho also scored his first goal for the professional Corinthians team and detailed the entire play of the second goal: “It was a play on the left side, I think, if I'm not mistaken, it was Kayke with Bidu. Then, at the moment, he rolled it back to me, I hit it first time, and so much went through my mind. This goal is very important, I was missing having this goal, but I am very happy. I said: 'I’ll take the shot, but I'll also put my foot through it.' There was no mistake there. Thank God, I was happy to get it past the goalkeeper. And now it's about continuing to work so, God willing, more goals will come.”

Finally, Gui Negão celebrated the coincidence of scoring a goal along with the other two Filhos do Terrão and expressed relief at ending the drought. The number 56, turning 19, hadn't scored in just over four months: “First of all, thank God. He is responsible for all of this. Unfortunately, I was coming from somewhat unnoticed performances. I wasn't giving my 100%. But, thank God, today we managed to play well, with ball after ball, I scored, I played, and thank God, I was rewarded with the goal. I am very grateful and also very happy for Kayke and Diego for scoring their first goals. I think this reflects a lot on the youth system, today's youth system. Even though sometimes bad performances happen, our adaptation period was fundamental for this to happen,” he concluded.

Now, Corinthians remains focused on the Paulista Championship. Next Sunday (8th), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will host Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena for the seventh round of the state championship's first phase. Currently, the Corinthians team is in fourth place, two points behind the leader Novorizontino, with 13.
