FLW looks at the players unavailable for both sides ahead of Saturday's clash at The Hawthorns

On Saturday lunchtime, West Bromwich Albion host Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns, with the pressure firmly on Ryan Mason's side at present after suffering back-to-back defeats.

The Baggies' form has tailed off in recent weeks, having won just two of their past eight Championship encounters, falling down to 11th place in the process.

Of course, the situation involving the Owls has been far more precarious, albeit there is now light at the end of the tunnel on the ownership front after the club were placed into administration last week, albeit a 12-point deduction, which has taken Henrik Pedersen's side's tally to -6, now makes relegation to League One feel even more of a certainty.

With a crucial three points at stake for varying reasons, there are plenty of high-quality players within the ranks of both sides capable of swinging the pendulum. However, there are also several on the treatment table, and FLW has looked at who falls under said category for both Albion and Wednesday.

West Bromwich Albion

The first of three players unavailable for Mason is Republic of Ireland international midfielder, Jayson Molumby.

Ironically, it was the 26-year-old who scored a stoppage-time winner in this fixture back in February. However, he won't be able to spark such wild scenes again after sustaining a muscle injury on duty with his nation, before aggravating said issue in the 2-1 victory over Preston North End on October 18th.

He has missed the past two fixtures as a result, and Saturday's clash has, once again, come too soon.

Toby Collyer

Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer is yet to kickstart his stint at The Hawthorns, and such fortunes have only continued as the England youth international recently picked up a hamstring injury before also being omitted from the squad for the recent defeats at Watford and Ipswich Town.

"Toby's had three of those injuries at Manchester United last season. He's a young boy. We need to push him, but we need to be careful because I think you can see the one or two injuries in our squad, we feel it from a numbers point of view," Mason recently said of the 21-year-old's situation.

Jed Wallace

Albion may also be without the services of their captain, Jed Wallace, who suffered a muscle issue of his own in the 3-0 defeat at Millwall at the start of the month, before only making it worse over the course of the international break.

After being sidelined for the defeats at Vicarage Road and Portman Road, it is touch-and-go as to whether the experienced winger will return in time for Saturday's clash against the Owls.

Wednesday's injury list is slightly longer, and the first of Pedersen's absentees is the highly-rated Pierce Charles, who sustained a shoulder issue back in August.

It came as a major blow for the Owls to see the 20-year-old sidelined for a prolonged period, with transfer restrictions forcing them to acquire the services of Ethan Horvath and Joe Lumley on loan, with the latter being an 'emergency loan' for the past two games against Middlesbrough and Oxford United.

However, the Northern Ireland international is hopeful he will be back between the sticks by the end of next month.

Di'shon Bernard

Di'shon Bernard has been out of action since suffering a major ankle issue back in March, meaning his eventual return to the squad will be significantly welcomed.

The ex-Manchester United man will only add further depth to a currently threadbare squad in S6, with Pedersen recently stating the centre-back could be back on the pitch between November and December.

Ernie Weaver

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for another highly-rated defender in the form of Ernie Weaver, who emerged as a real bright spark during a testing start to the campaign.

The 19-year-old made his first nine senior appearances in the Championship and EFL Cup, earning rave reviews for his defensive nous and maturity, before he was hit with a serious foot injury that requires surgery, and is likely to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The same fate also applied to young full-back Gui Siqueira, who was sidelined through an achilles problem sustained in an Under-21s clash with Colchester United in early September.

Siqueira gained major attention for his performances in the EFL Cup, which included a stunning strike in an eventual penalty-shootout win at Bolton Wanderers back in August.

However, the Brazilian will be out of action for the rest of the season as he continues his rehabilitation.

Nathaniel Chalobah

The experienced Nathaniel Chalobah is yet to get his spell at Hillsborough fully off the ground, despite scoring the club's first goal of the current season at Leicester City on August 10th.

However, after being substituted through injury just minutes later, the 30-year-old is yet to return, and has suffered setbacks in his individual recovery along the way.

Pedersen recently revealed he was hopeful that the ex-Chelsea man would've returned to the squad for last weekend's 2-1 defeat against Oxford United, meaning he could still do exactly that in B71 on Saturday.

Olaf Kobacki

There was a belief that Polish winger, Olaf Kobacki, was making great strides of progress in his return to fitness, with it being stated last week that he was expected to return to the training pitches after being sidelined by a groin problem.

However, in the lead-up to the trip to The Hawthorns, Pedersen revealed the 24-year-old's latest setback.

“Olaf has had problems again after training,” he said. “So he’s had a setback of maybe two to four weeks – we’re not yet sure exactly how long it will take.”

George Brown

The final guaranteed absentee for Saturday's game is young Owls forward, George Brown.

The 19-year-old already has two goals in his first five Championship outings, but suffered a foot injury before the recent defeat to Middlesbrough, which is set to keep him on the treatment table for a period of between six and eight weeks overall.
