Only five members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid appear guaranteed to be at the disposal of new head coach Xabi Alonso for his first training session with the club.
This comes owing to a combination of fitness problems in Los Blancos’ ranks, as well as international commitments.
Alonso, for his part, was of course unveiled as the latest installation on the bench in Spain’s capital early last week.
The former midfielder has been brought back to the Santiago Bernabéu to usher in something of a new era, after an altogether challenging campaign under the watch of Carlo Ancelotti last time out.
The understanding is that Alonso will oversee his very first training session as Real Madrid manager next Monday.
As alluded to above, though, to say that the Spaniard will find himself working with a diminished squad could prove to be something of an understatement.
As revealed by Blancos insider Melchor Ruiz of COPE, unavailable for selection at Valdebebas at present are a whopping 19 players – 10 away with their countries, and nine injured.
This means that the following five players are the only locks to be part of the group in Alonso’s first session early next week:
Lucas Vázquez, Raúl Asencio, Fran García, Dani Ceballos, and Rodrygo.
