Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues side are firmly the team to catch after an excellent opening 18 league games this term, which has seen the West Midlands outfit collect 43 points and sit 10 points clear at the summit.

It’s one of the best opportunities Coventry will ever have to reach the Premier League, and it’s no surprise after their steady improvements season-upon-season under Mark Robins and now Lampard.

Meanwhile, for Ipswich, it’s not been the dream start to the campaign many envisaged following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

The Tractor Boys are on the periphery of the play-off places in seventh place, but a rather slow start to the term has prevented the Suffolk outfit from staking a claim for an automatic promotion place.

That being said, Ipswich are only five points off second-placed Middlesbrough, but they will have to put right a disappointing midweek trip to Blackburn Rovers, which saw Ipswich clinch a late equaliser to claim a point in a poor display.

Ipswich will have to be much better if they are to trouble Coventry this weekend, and FLW lists which players from both teams are expected to be absent.

Ipswich Town: Alex Palmer

First-choice goalkeeper Alex Palmer has been sidelined since the end of October when he injured his calf in a 3-0 home defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Prior to their meeting with Wrexham towards the end of November, Kieran McKenna did say that the shot-stopper would be available in the next couple of weeks, so it remains to be seen whether he will be in the matchday squad against Coventry.

Ipswich Town: Sammie Szmodics

Sammie Szmodics could be a missing after requiring surgery on a small knee issue.

McKenna previously stated Szmodics would take less time than Alex Palmer to return, but he wasn’t in the squad for their draw at Ewood Park in midweek.

Therefore, he’s a doubt heading into the weekend.

Ipswich Town: Wes Burns

Wes Burns continues to wait to make an eagerly anticipated return to action for Ipswich since suffering an ACL injury at Liverpool back in January.

Burns seemed to be making positive progress, featuring for the U21s this week, but sustained a leg injury as he attempted to build up his fitness.

Kieran McKenna confirmed Burns had avoided sustaining any ligament damage, but it is a setback and forces him to miss the clash against Coventry.

Coventry City: Brandon Thomas-Asante

Meanwhile for the visitors, Coventry are suffering injury issues at the top end of the pitch, and it’s a particular blow to lose top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The ex-West Brom frontman had been electric at the start of the season, netting 10 times in 17 league games, but sustained a hamstring injury against Middlesbrough.

The frontman has been sidelined for around six weeks, and is not expected to return at Portman Road.

Coventry City: Haji Wright

Haji Wright is expected to be another absentee, with the US international sustaining a muscle injury during the latest international break.

Following their comeback victory over West Brom, Frank Lampard confirmed Wright would be out for a minimum of two weeks, and it is unknown yet whether he has made a recovery to feature in Suffolk this weekend.

Coventry City: Tatsuhiro Sakamoto

The final Coventry City injury issue is to key wide player Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

The Japanese livewire suffered a head injury at Middlesbrough in midweek and had to go through concussion protocols that can mean players are out for up to 14 days, meaning there is uncertainty over whether he will be available for the trip to Ipswich.
