Manchester United-linked midfielder Mateus Fernandes is ‘expected to be sold’ by West Ham this summer, despite spending only one season at the club.
That’s according to The Athletic’s Irons correspondent Roshane Thomas today, who adds that the coveted star will be on the move even if West Ham manage to retain their Premier League status.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit two points behind 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur heading into the final two fixtures of the campaign, so they can only win their matches and hope that Chelsea and Everton do them a favour by claiming the maximum points from their encounters with Spurs.

Meanwhile, the Hammers take on Newcastle United and Leeds United, which, on paper, are perhaps less daunting matches than their relegation rivals.
Fernandes will hope to play a pivotal role in the final outings, given that they will now also mark his last appearances for the London outfit.
The 21-year-old joined only eight months ago in a £38 million switch from Southampton following their 20th-placed top-flight finish in 2024/2025.
Yet, even amidst two consecutive relegation scraps, Fernandes has impressed enough that he has now found himself on the shortlists of Arsenal, United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Indeed, it was revealed today that this term’s Champions League finalists have also begun sizing up a swoop for the youngster, who has yet to indicate where his future may lie beyond the summer.
West Ham’s league status will also determine what kind of fee they can demand for Fernandes.

Should they fall victim to the dreaded drop, they’ll likely have to accept a much lower fee than they’d hope in order to secure a quick financial boost and keep the player happy.
On the other hand, if they achieve survival by next Sunday, the board will be keen to receive a lucrative fee if they’re made to facilitate Fernandes’ departure.
