Palmeiras kicked off the day with a comprehensive win over Al Ahly. The Brazilian giants brought the noise with a raucous crowd in New Jersey, and those fans helped the Sao Paulo club over the line with a 2-0 win.

Then it was Inter Miami's turn to get in on the action as they stunned Porto with a 2-1 victory. Of course it was Lionel Messi who netted the winner, firing in a stunning free kick from the edge of the area.

Seattle Sounders weren't so fortunate in their tussle with European opposition as they went down 3-1 to Atlético de Madrid. That leaves the MLS outfit bottom of Group B and all but out of the competition.

The biggest shock of the night - and the tournament so far - saw South American champions Botafogo best Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in Los Angeles. Igor Jesus's deflected effort was enough for a stunning victory.

Player of the day 🔥

How could we pick anyone other than Igor Tudor for this award.

The Botafogo striker netted his sixth goal in seven games as the South American champions stunned their European counterparts to go top of Group B and put one foot in the last 16.

Stat of the Day 📊

Lionel Messi created yet more history with his free kick against Porto.

Group A remains wide open with Palmeiras and Inter Miami on four points whilst Al Ahly and Porto sit on one point each. The top two face off against each other in Miami next Tuesday, meaning that a draw will be enough for both sides to go through.

In Group B meanwhile, Botafogo sit top with two wins from two and have all but booked their place in the last 16. Only a serious collapse against Atleti next week would see them knocked out.

What they said 🗣️

"We killed PSG with the same poison. That is by being a great team, playing together with all the guys defending and all attacking. That’s the big secret of PSG, why they compete and win. This PSG side is a lesson to everybody in football and I told my guys to just be a team, enjoy, play together, attack together, defend together. [We showed] the quality of Brazilian players and coaches, and this is a victory of all the coaches that are working in Brazil, working with great players." Renato Paiva, Botafogo head coach

“We created many chances in the first half and the team played very well in the first 30 minutes. Then their goal put the victory in doubt but the team knew how to compete and I’m happy with the win." Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone

"I'm very happy with everyone's work. It was a very important game for us. Thank God we managed to score two goals and take the three points to continue our dream. He [coach Abel Ferreira] read the game well, made the right substitutions and they paid off. Everyone here gives their best on and off the pitch, and the game today was spectacular for us." Flaco López, Palmeiras striker.

What's next? 👀

Auckland City are back in action later today and will be hoping to not concede double figures against Benfica.

Then it's the first of a European versus South American heavyweight double-header as Chelsea take on the might of Flamengo.

There's an interesting palate cleanser from Nashville as LAFC play Esperance de Tunis before Bayern Munich take on Boca Juniors for only the second time in their history.
