Liam Rosenior has spoken really well both in his first press conference as Chelsea manager and in his first one on one interview, with Joe Cole on TNT Sport.
But we all know it takes more than speaking well. Given his limited CV, which has seen him coach at Derby, Hull and Strasbourg, there are very reasonable doubts about whether the elite international footballers in his squad now will buy into his ideas.

Rosenior addressed this in his chat with Joe Cole:
“I want to have a good relationship with all of them. I actually enjoy the challenge of walking in to the dressing room,” the new manager said.
“Enzo Fernandez has won the World Cup. What a fantastic player he is. Moises Caicedo is the best midfield player in word football. I’m walking in to manage a group of players where I already have so much respect for what they’ve already achieved. So it’s a challenge for me. Will they buy it from me? Will they believe in my message? I actually enjoy that challenge.
“If you want to be a successful manager, the first thing you have to do is to get the players to buy into who you are and what you stand for.”
None of this is any guarantee they will listen, of course, but it’s comforting to know he’s very aware of what he must do.

Rosenior’s enthusiastic coaching in the open session raised eyebrows as they appeared pretty performative. He also says he’s had some “very interesting” meetings with players since taking the job. We really don’t know which way this is going to go…
The coach called himself “strange” and “crazy” in that same interview, and we’re starting to understand what he means by that. He’s a very interesting character, that’s for sure.
