Girona FC has taken a historic step today with the presentation of the Fundació Girona FC, a new entity that aims to go beyond the strictly sporting realm and become a driver of social, educational, and community transformation in the Girona region.
The presentation event, held at CaixaForum Girona, began with remarks from the foundation's president, Ignasi Mas-Bagà. The event was also attended by the club president Delfí Geli, the Chairman of the Board, Pere Guardiola, as well as the Secretary General of Sports, Abel García; the president of the Diputació, Miquel Noguer; and the mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas. Also present were the first team coach, Michel, and the captains Stuani, Arnau, and Portu.
Looking Beyond Football
Ignasi Mas-Bagà highlighted during the presentation that "today we take a very important step forward: we present the Fundació Girona FC, a project born from the heart of the Club, its fans, and its territory, and which looks beyond football."
According to Mas-Bagà, Girona is much more than a football team: "Girona is emotion, identity, and pride. It reflects a region that has shown that with effort and humility, unimaginable goals can be achieved. Now we want to channel this collective strength to improve the lives of the people and communities around us."
Mission and Vision
The new foundation's mission is to promote physical, mental, and social health and to convey the values of sport through football, with special attention to young people. Its vision, according to Mas-Bagà, is clear: "We want the Fundació Girona FC to be a benchmark for social cohesion in the Girona region and to demonstrate that football can be a transformative tool capable of generating opportunities and fostering inclusion."
Values and Strategic Pillars
The project is based on the values that define the Club: commitment to the region, respect, nonconformity, and teamwork.
Based on these principles, the foundation will carry out its activities across three main pillars:
Roots and Partnerships
The foundation will primarily operate in the Girona region but with an openness to broader horizons. "Girona is not just a city: it belongs to an entire region that has brought us to where we are today. But we also want to collaborate on projects that allow us to grow and share our values beyond our home," said Mas-Bagà. To achieve this, the Club is committed to establishing strategic partnerships with social entities, public institutions, businesses, and organizations. "We know that alone we cannot go as far as we want. We will work hand in hand to multiply the impact," he added.
A Project for Everyone
Finally, Mas-Bagà emphasized the inclusive nature of the initiative: "We want this foundation to be by our people and for our people. That every boy and girl wearing the red and white colors feels that Girona is an opportunity, a support, and a space to grow."
The Fundació Girona FC is thus born with the aim of being a shared project that puts football at the service of society and the region. "Today we begin a collective journey to show that football can change lives. Together we will compete and win the most important match of all: the match for people. Because, let us never forget: together we are stronger," he concluded.
The Board
The Fundació Girona FC will be chaired by Ignasi Mas-Bagà and composed of board members Pere Guardiola, Simon Cliff, John Macbeath, Ingo Bank, Ricardo Sosa, and Roger Solé, who are also part of the Club's Board of Directors.
