Blackburn Rovers started the Championship season in impressive form, but two defeats in two have seen them slip down the league table for the first time.

Before their losses to Coventry City and Plymouth Argyle, John Eustace's side were unbeaten in the second tier, after surprising many with their start to the campaign.

Although supporters will be disappointed to have seen their near-perfect opening two months come to an end, the losses perhaps came at an ideal moment, with the international break pausing the division for the weekend, giving Eustace the chance to take time to make any necessary changes.

Blackburn return to action on 19 October at home to Swansea City, and while a win could see them back into the play-off places, another failure to take a point could see those further behind start to catch back up to the Lancashire-based club.

Eustace must play Makhtar Gueye and Yuki Ohashi together

After the sale of Sammie Szmodics in August, there were worries that Rovers were going to struggle to replace their top-scorer from last season. However, the additions of Makhtar Gueye and Yuki Ohashi have eased any of the pain that could have been felt.

The latter has scored four times in nine appearances in the Championship, including a strike on his debut against Derby County.

However, with the team now lacking goals, Football League World has asked their Blackburn Fan Pundit, Toby Wilding, for one change that he believes Eustace should make ahead of the clash with Swansea.

He told

"While Ohashi is definitely the stronger finisher of the two, he doesn't seem to have that physicality to play as the lone striker quite as well as Gueye does, and quite often, when he has been playing in that role in the last few games, he has been struggling to get into it and has been knocked off the ball quite a bit."

Toby continued: "So, I think if you were to combine those two and have Gueye in that lead role with Ohashi playing off him, it would open up more opportunities for both to play in the way that suits them best, so that would be the standout for me.

"Although I would also like to say that I do think Amario Cozier-Duberry needs to get a few more goes from the start, because he's been excellent coming off the bench and I do think he already looks like he will offer quite a bit more than some of our other options out wide."

A return to Ewood Park gives Blackburn a chance to get back to their best

While the losses will be frustrating, both of them came away from home, with their form at Ewood Park exceptional so far in 2024/25.

Blackburn are the only team to have a 100% record at home in the Championship still, winning all four of their games there, scoring 11 times and conceding just three goals.

The visit of Swansea is not one that they have to fear, especially if Eustace works out a way to play Gueye and Ohashi together in a two. This will give them frightening firepower up front, especially as they have scored just three times in their last four matches in the league.

Staying consistent on their own patch will only lead to positive things, and Eustace is starting to build something extremely exciting at Ewood Park after failing to win at home during any of his fixtures there last season.

Nevertheless, the change that Toby has recommended could be the perfect formula to get Rovers back to their very best.
