The (new) Three Bears can’t seem to find Rangers a CEO | OneFootball

For those of you unaware, while Rangers appointed former Three Bears member John Gilligan as interim chairman following the resignation of John Bennett, he wasn’t left on his own.

Long-standing Rangers associate and shareholder George Letham was also added in there in an ‘advisory’ role to assist the current chairman, and it is he and Gilligan (plus one other) who are working on trying to at least find a CEO.

Rangers have been without one since the beginning of the summer and James Bisgrove’s exit, and the lack of leadership from the club has been stark in recent times, with no chairman or CEO to call the shots.

Letham? He’s well-known in Rangers circles, and is an extremely experienced businessman to say the least. The two of them are also being aided by director Graeme Park, who we will admit definitely doesn’t win too many awards in the popularity stakes.

Park represents his family, with his father of course resigning as chairman a long time ago, and it’s now a dynasty that most Rangers fans would like to see moving on from the club entirely.

Rather than that taking place, Park jnr seems more entrenched than ever, even if he doesn’t have any executive powers.

Indeed, the mad thing about Rangers’ board is no one on it does have executive privilege, the last one being Bennett himself till he resigned.

So it does beg the question of who had the authority to appoint Gilligan interim chairman, exactly.

For those who don’t know, ‘executive’ means you have the power to actually press the big red button and launch the nuke, non-executive means you can only advise.

We suspect Gilligan’s appointment was a majority vote which does hold clout in a boardroom of non-executive directors.

But what none of this changes is Rangers’ lack of rudder, lack of leadership and lack of CEO.

It’s absurd that as we begin to near November we have no CEO in place, and only a temporary chairman being aided by individuals relatively unfamiliar to fans, or unpopular with them.
