The next Adam Wharton is at Liverpool and he will be coming to join the club's first-team soon.

Who doesn’t appreciate a midfielder like him?

He feels like a player from another time - low socks, Adidas Predators, and a level of footballing intelligence that sets him apart from everyone else on the pitch. He embodies the essence of what draws people to the game in the first place.

In many respects, his style brings back memories of a prime Thiago Alcântara. His ability to read the game is outstanding, his first touch is flawless, and his line-breaking passes consistently give his team the upper hand.

When it comes to replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold, it’s hard to argue against him being the perfect fit.

Right now, there’s arguably no one else in the Premier League who blends the same qualities that Alexander-Arnold offers quite like he does. It explains why he’s already broken into the England setup and why so many Liverpool fans are eager to see him at Anfield.

But here’s the exciting part - Liverpool supporters may not have to look elsewhere for long. The next version of him might already be at the club, and his first-team breakthrough could be just around the corner.

Meet U18 midfielder Haydn Murray-Holme, who might just be the standout talent currently flying under the radar in Liverpool’s academy.

Much like Wharton, Murray-Holme carries a hint of the old-school game, but blends it seamlessly with modern qualities. He’s a graceful midfielder, technically gifted, with the awareness and composure to pick out passes from virtually anywhere on the pitch.

His vision and scanning ability mirror Wharton’s closely - as does the range and precision of his distribution.

So far this season, he has registered one goal and five assists in 23 appearances across the club’s U18 and U19 sides. Solid numbers for a midfielder — but it’s his underlying data that truly stands out.

Murray-Holme is an intelligent reader of the game, someone who contributes just as effectively off the ball as he does on it.

He’s averaging 4.91 recoveries per 90 minutes in the opposition’s half - an excellent return. On top of that, he’s winning 63.4% of his 6.63 defensive duels per 90, while also averaging 3.27 interceptions per 90 minutes, highlighting his defensive sharpness and anticipation.

But it's in possession where the midfielder really thrives.

On the ball, he is one of a kind and probably the most technical player the academy has produced since Alexander-Arnold.

Murray-Holme's first-touch is exceptional and he can wrap his foot around the ball to execute a number of different passes, from audacious through balls with the outside of his foot to long and extremely precise long balls over the top of opposition defenders.

Again his range of distribution is very Wharton esque.

He's an extremely effective player at breaking lines. And he becomes a cheat-code who can unlock any defence, putting teams on the backfoot.

He has averaged the most progressive passes (12.5 per 90 minutes) among midfielders in the U18 Premier League. He's averaged the third most passes into the opposition's final third (13.56 per 90 minutes).

He's already been promoted to play for the U21 team in a friendly last year, and given the qualities he has and what Liverpool need, it won't be long until Murray-Holme joins Liverpool's first-team.

In the process, the Reds will have their very own version of Wharton. Remember the name. Because he is coming to the Reds' senior set-up very soon.
