Now, L’Equipe has reported that Ilkay Gundogan has agreed on personal terms with Galatasaray. Perhaps Gundogan may be one player who will leave Manchester City this summer.

Pep Guardiola has commented on Ilkay Gundogan’s future at Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup Group G match against Al Ain, Pep Guardiola was asked about the possibility of Ilkay Gundogan leaving City. Guardiola told the media that as of right now, Gundogan is a part of Manchester City’s plans for next season. But the City manager added that players will likely have to leave the Etihad this summer. Speaking on Gundogan’s future, Guardiola said: “No news, good news. I don’t know anything, I didn’t speak with him (Gundogan), and if he will not be part he would not be here.”

“But at the same time, we have – right now – a long squad, too many players, so we cannot go with 26, 27 players this season because there would be more without playing, and step by step maybe a few players are going to more. But right now, Ilkay (Gundogan) is absolutely part of my mind and the team.”

The future of Ilkay Gundogan could be a story that will take time to resolve.

Who leaves Manchester City out of their Club World Cup squad likely won’t be known until after the City’s participation in the competition comes to an end. It is highly unlikely that a key component of City’s squad for the tournament will be allowed to leave. But when Manchester City’s participation in the competition ends that may be when clarity comes surrounding who may leave Manchester City this summer. Ilkay Gundogan’s future is likely one topic that will be resolved at that moment. It would seem that moving to Galatasaray is a bona fide option for Gundogan. It now remains to be seen if it is an option he will pursue. But for now, clarity on who leaves Manchester City may not come for some time.
