Wolves have moved clear of the Premier League’s lowest totals after a miserable start, and with seven games left 21 points remain.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Vitor Pereira was sacked, Rob Edwards replaced him, yet Wolves stayed bottom.

Fears grew they would not pass Derby County’s 11 from 2007/2008. A festive upturn took them past that mark, Southampton’s 12 last season and Sunderland’s 15 in 2005/2006.

They also eclipsed Sheffield United’s 16 in 2023/24 and Huddersfield Town’s 16 in 2018/19. They are now level with Aston Villa’s 2017/18 total when they were relegated from the top flight.

Sunderland’s 19 in 2002/03 followed survival by four points, with Reid, Wilkinson and McCarthy unable to save them, and McCarthy then losing in the next season’s play-offs.

Norwich posted 21 in 2019/20 under Daniel Farke, then 22 in 2021/22 after Farke made way for Dean Smith.

Sheffield United finished on 23 in 2020/21 under Chris Wilder then Paul Heckingbottom. Watford’s 1999/00 brought 24 under Graham Taylor, and Sunderland matched 24 in 2016/17 under David Moyes.

Wolves’ own low is 25 from 2011/12, so nine more points would top it. McCarthy was sacked after a 5-1 loss to West Brom, Terry Connor could not stop the slide. QPR and Southampton also finished on 25, in 2012/13 and 2022/23.

Bradford ended with 26 in 2000/01 and have not returned. Leicester hit 28 in 2001/02 and Watford in 2006/07. Cardiff’s 2013/14 and QPR’s 2014/15 closed on 30.
