Watching Savinho play for Manchester City can be a frustrating experience. At times the Brazilian international can produce the spectacular. On other occasions, he flatters to deceive as his decision-making and end product let him down. Recently, Savinho has shown signs of improvement in his overall game, but he remains a work in progress as a player as his performances during the 25/26 season have shown.

Savinho is yet to establish himself as a Manchester City player.

Following Savinho’s promising debut season, he hasn’t taken the next step as a player. So far this season he has made 18 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal and has added two assists. The lack of end product in Savinho’s game has always been the knock on him as a player. As of yet he hasn’t improved this aspect of his game. At times his work rate off the ball has been lacking. All of this combined has seen Savinho fail to establish himself as a first-team regular at Manchester City this season.

There is also another issue that has seen Savinho fall down the pecking order at City. That is the rise of Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki. Heading into this season the opportunity was there for certain players to become Manchester City’s first-choice wingers and attacking players given the turnover in Pep Guardiola’s squad. So far, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku have risen to the challenge. Savinho and Oscar Bobb have not. Neither has Omar Marmoush due to injury. But hope is not lost for Savinho given his recent displays.

Savinho’s recent performances have been promising.

Savinho’s performances against Sunderland and Real Madrid have shown that he is coming to grips with Pep Guardiola’s expectations of his wingers. He got back when necessary and helped his team defensively, and in possession, he kept the ball better. Although his decision-making needs improvement as seen by his late decision to shoot at the Bernabeu. But the base of Savinho’s game is improving. That is a positive sign and the hope is that the rest of Savinho’s game can improve. Manchester City do need it to given their reliance on a certain set of players so far this season.

Savinho has shown signs of improvement as a player in recent matches. But he isn’t the finished product as a player. The hope is that Savinho’s improvement continues and the frustrating side of his game becomes a distant memory. The sooner that can happen the better it will be for Pep Guardiola’s side and for the Brazilian winger.
