Brendan Rodgers spoke to BBC Scotland ahead of kick-off at Rugby Park this afternoon and the reporter wanted to know how the Celtic manager’s chat with Michael Nicholson went after his explosive media conference at Lennoxtown on Friday afternoon.
“Very well. Always cordial, always respectful. There is no issue on that front,” was Rodgers’ response. He was then asked if there was any update on the club investigating who it was – the so-called Celtic Insider who briefed against the Celtic manager in the Sun newspaper last weekend. Or indeed any news on how the transfer window shambles can be avoid going forward.
“There is nothing to discuss on that now,” Brendan said, with the Kilmarnock game very much his immediate priority. “I think once the market shut and closed my intention now is to focus on the football.
“There are other things that are not for airing or briefing now. It’s been a summer of learning I’m sure, but going forward now my concentration is purely on the team and managing this situation. Hopefully we can get us all back together again.”
Then asked if there is a ‘trust” issue festering behind the scene at Celtic, but again Brendan was ore interest in talking about the team and the challenges ahead on the pitch.
“I think what we are keen to do is make sure the football is united – that is what is most important in this moment. The spirit of the team, so they can bring that performance level onto the pitch. That is really my only concern, I think the situation between the fans and the board – I fully understand – but my job is to manage the team now.
“I just want to make sure that when the team goes on the pitch that we have control of our game, the confidence to play our game, and have real clarity on what our expectations are within the game.”
Here’s the Celtic team to take on Kilmarnock.
