Malick Thiaw equalled an unfortunate Serie A record with his own goal during Milan’s 2-1 loss to Torino, becoming only the second player in the history of the league to score two own goals against the same opponent in the same season.
A comical mix-up between goalkeeper Mike Maignan and the German centre-back handed Torino the lead after just five minutes on Saturday. The stopper came out to hoof a clearance, but ended up whacking his teammate instead, which left both watching on as the ball trickled into an empty net.
Christian Pulisic missed a penalty, which would have brought Milan level, but Tijjani Reijnders ended up providing the equaliser in the 73rd minute, only for Gvidas Gineitis to restore the Toro advantage a few moments later.

With his own goal early on, Thiaw became only the second player in Serie A history to have scored multiple own goals against the same opponent within the same season. He also opened the scoring with an own-goal after half an hour in an eventual 2-2 draw between the two sides on the opening weekend of the 2024-25 season.
Only Rossoneri legend Franco Baresi has done the same previously, putting the ball in the back of his own net against Pescara twice within the 1992-93 season.
