Renato Veiga joined Chelsea as a relative unknown last season, but he’s quickly built a good reputation.

He was a solid backup and a regular in the Conference League team in the first half of the season, and then went on loan to Juventus in the second half of the season where he also looked good.

Renato Veiga wanted by many clubs.

Even though Chelsea need a backup left back, the plan right now seems to be to sell Veiga and cash in on his rapid rise.

There was talk about Juventus wanting to sign him permanently after a good loan, and today German insider Florian Plettenberg has added more teams to the list. Veiga’s previous Bundesliga connections seem to be helping Plettenberg get ahead of the pack on this one.

He says that Atletico Madrid are now in the race, with Bayern Munich already named as interested. This backs up further reporting that there was a host of top sides chasing him.

Plettenberg names a €30m-35m valuation from the Blues, which would mean a big profit in the space of a year. Let’s just hope it’s reinvested on a solid Marc Cucurella backup.

Chelsea have to trust their brains trust to get deal right

We’re delighted that so many top teams are interested, and delighted that that means we will get such a big fee for him and make such an impressive profit for the course of just one year.

However, that does inevitably raise some questions about the whole deal – if so many top teams are super keen to sign him, shouldn’t we be thinking more about keeping him?

This is just one of those situations where we’re going to have to trust our sporting directors and our manager to make the right call.
