Nottingham Forest sacked Ange Postecoglou on Saturday after his five Premier League games had produced one point.
That sacking created Premier League history as we pointed out (see below).
The Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sacking Ange Postecoglou only 39 days after giving him the job, a new Premier League era record for a permanent managerial appointment lasting so little time.
Nuno Espirito Santo had lasted only three Premier League matches of the season, sacked after picking up four points in three PL games.
Now Sky Sports have revealed the breaking news on Monday morning that Marinakis has a verbal agreement with a third manager of the season after only eight games.
The Nottingham Forest owner bringing in Sean Dyche, with a formal completion of the appointment expected very shortly.
Sky Sports reporting that after the massive costs generated from sacking Nuno and his back up staff AND now Ange Postecoglou and his back up staff, that due to PSR worries Nottingham Forest had to look for a currently unemployed manager where they don’t have to pay compensation…
Negotiations progressed late on Sunday night, with both parties keen to sort a deal quickly, and in time for Dyche to have some time preparing the team before Thursday’s Europa League match against Porto.
There are still some final legal details to be sorted, Sky Sports News has been told, and the paperwork is yet to be signed, but he could be confirmed in the role later on Monday.
Marinakis has been looking at several names and has a long-term admiration for Fulham boss Silva since he managed his Olympiacos team.
But Sky Sports News has been told Forest would struggle to pay compensation for any new manager right now because of their PSR restrictions, which had not budgeted for three different managers in the same season, especially after just eight games
Forest have already paid significant compensation to Nuno Espirito Santo and his backroom staff, who were sacked last month, and now face a similar, hefty bill for sacking Postecoglou and his coaches.’
The Mag report – 19 October 2025:
The Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on 9 September 2025 after the manager had picked up four points from the first three Premier League matches of the season, then the same day announced Ange Postecoglou as his replacement.
Only 39 days later, Evangelos Marinakis setting a new Premier League record.
On Saturday announcing with the briefest of statements (see below) that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked after picking up one point from five Premier League matches.
Postecoglou sacked only minutes after the 3-0 home loss to Chelsea, after watching his players dominate the first half and should have had the game won by the break, instead Forest came out and quickly conceded four minutes later and the writing was on the wall.
Rumours in the lead up to Saturday’s game that the Forest owner had already been sounding out replacements.
Maybe Marinakis can soon set a new new Premier League record.
The 39 days that Ange Postecoglou is the least amount of time a permanent appointment Premier League manager has lasted.
Already set to be on their third manager of the season with only eight Premier League games gone, it makes you wonder just how long the new one can last if results don’t improve…?
