Thomas Frank insists that you cannot be a big club without a sustainable long-term vision – and says every decision he makes is with that vision in mind.

Tottenham are without a win in their last five fixtures in all competitions, including losses to Arsenal, Fulham and PSG in that time.

Despite sitting in 11th in the Premier League as it stands, Frank believes that the long-term vision of the club is the most important thing for him.

The manager was asked if he plans to be at Spurs for the same nine years that he was at Brentford: “I think everything is possible,” he answered. “I think, asking me now, nine years is a long time, but I’ve said from the beginning, every action, everything I do, is with two pathways.

“One is that we need to do everything we can to win tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the day after that, but everything is taken with the long term vision.

“If you don’t build anything sustainable long term, I don’t believe you can be a big club or top club, if you only just about survive each season.

“And then there are pragmatic choices we have to make along the way, because there are players in form, out of form, injuries, everything that that. But bit by bit, we will get closer and closer to a well-oiled engine, impossible to stop.”

Frank had a tough start at Brentford, losing eight of his opening 10 matches and he spoke about how they got back to form.

“At Brentford, for example, we played 4-3-3, I think for 10 games,” he said. “Then the 11th game we changed it 3-4-3 because that was right thing with the players.

“Then we had a fantastic front three in Watkins, Neal Maupay and Benrahma. They just clicked.”
