Thomas Tuchel admitted England lacked any real threat in wide areas against Albania in their 2-0 win at Wembley and that they "have to do better" moving forward.
The German's tenure got underway with a comfortable victory earned through goals from debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly and captain Harry Kane, who swivelled on a sixpence to fire home a terrific effort into the bottom corner.
But rather than praise England for winning a game they were overwhelming favourites to pick up three points in, Tuchel focused on areas of improvement for the future – a potential sign of how the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss could handle media commitments in a completely different way to predecessor Gareth Southgate.
"We can do better, we have to do better," Tuchel told ITV Sport. "We started well, we had seven or eight minutes with 100% ball possession with a lot of passes and high energy.
"The opponent is hard to break down as they defend in a deep block. In the Euros [last year] they managed to not concede chances. Second half, I felt we were too slow and in general not enough runs off the ball to get behind the line."

"Both of our wingers that started were not as impactful as they can be or as they are in club football," Tuchel added, asked specifically about the lack of threat from both Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford.
"At the moment I'm not so sure why we struggled to bring the ball quicker to them, to bring the ball in more [of an] open position to them, I need to review the match.
"We lacked a bit of runs off the ball, so it was a bit too much passing and not enough dribbling. Not aggressive enough towards goal. They were very good in the last weeks in their clubs. We will keep encouraging them and give them a structure so they can show their potential."
Foden had 52 touches of the ball overall but just two of those came in Albania's penalty area. The fleet-footed attacking midfielder also only attempted one dribble in his 74 minutes on the pitch, producing an expected xG and xA (expected goals and assists) of 0.13.
Rashford, meanwhile, did look to get in behind Albania's backline in the first half, touching the ball three more times than Foden and half a dozen times in the penalty area. The on-loan Aston Villa forward was also far more willing to run with the ball, completing three of five attempted dribbles en route to a performance that yielded an expected xG and xA of 0.65.
