Leeds United enter January with PSR limits already maxed out, and three squad members face scrutiny over their immediate futures.
According to Leeds Live, loans could be favoured, while any permanent buy would likely require sales before the new PSR cycle in July. Departures remain unclear, and it is possible all senior players stay for the season.
Joel Piroe may benefit from a three-five-two, yet Noah Okafor has been preferred up front and Lukas Nmecha is injured. Different to Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and without Okafor’s ability to beat a man, he is not a target presence either.
Given Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha’s injury records, and with Okafor not a natural number nine, Leeds might keep Piroe, though regular minutes look unlikely. He has played only 61 Premier League minutes since starting at Arsenal in August, and with summer interest in mind, he could look for a move if one appeals.
January is the last chance to collect a fee for Illan Meslier, now third choice, with his contract up this summer. He had offers in the summer, but it seems unlikely clubs pay now for a goalkeeper short of match sharpness and available for free in six months. He can sign a pre-contract with an overseas club in January.
Harry Gray, 17, will not be sold but could be loaned for experience. He has made senior squads without minutes, last played competitively against Stoke City on promotion day in April, and featured in pre-season. Leeds want to shield him despite the family name, yet he has five goals in six Premier League 2 games, two in two EFL Trophy, and a September hat-trick against Scunthorpe in the National League Cup.
