United and Wolves have faced each other 114 times in history with the Red Devils coming out on top in 56 games.

The Molineux side have won on 36 occasions and drawn 20 of the matches.

Here are three plotlines to sink your teeth into before Sunday’s game.

United have a strong home record versus Wolves

According to The BBC, the Red Devils “have lost just one of their last 13 home league games against Wolves.”

They have won nine and drawn three of these games.

Their last defeat at home to the Black Country side was a 0-1 loss in January 2022.

Man United defeated Wolves 2-0 in May 2023 and also on opening day of August 2023, when they ran out 1-0 victors at Old Trafford.

In fact, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ last victory at United’s ground before 2022 came in February 1980 when they defeated the home side 0-1.

Avoiding an unwanted record

There are numerous reasons why Ruben Amorim’s side have struggled this season in the Premier League.

One of the most glaring issues in the team is their tendency to concede the first goal.

Scoring first is vital in football and it is something United have been comically bad at this season.

They have conceded the first goal in a league match on 19 occasions. When you consider they have played 32 times, it is clear the hole they are continuously digging for themselves.

In other words, they have fallen behind in 59% of their league games and this equals a club record. They will be hoping that they can get the all important first strike tomorrow afternoon to avoid breaking the unwanted record outright.

Potential Matheus Cunha audition

United have been linked to a plethora of attacking options but one name that has often been repeated in the media is of Wolves’ attacker Cunha.

The Brazilian was electric in the match at Molineux at Christmas, scoring directly from a corner kick.

He has had a wonderful season to date, scoring 16 goals in all competitions and providing four assists.

Ruben Amorim specifically highlighted the threat of the Brazil international in his pre-match press conference and he is reported to favour a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The stage could be set for him to convince United fans and the manager that he has what it takes to move to The Theatre of Dreams in the summer.
