With Marc-Andre ter Stegen getting sidelined with a season-ending knee injury, FC Barcelona have decided to bring in a replacement for him immediately.

Earlier today, reports suggested that the Catalans might consider waiting until the January transfer window to sign a proper replacement for the German.

However, it is now being claimed that Barcelona do not intend to wait and will bring in a free-agent signing right away, with contacts being established with a number of available shot-stoppers.

Keylor Navas a strong contender

Amidst this, Mundo Deportivo reports that former Real Madrid and PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas has emerged as one of the strongest contenders to join Barcelona.

The 37-year-old has been a free agent since leaving PSG in the summer and has been working hard in his homeland, Costa Rica, to keep himself fit and ready if any club comes calling.

As reported yesterday, Navas would be happy to sign for Barça despite his past allegiances with Real Madrid, with whom he won three UEFA Champions League titles.

In fact, the aforementioned report states that the Costa Rican custodian would be willing to accept a one-year contract that too on a low salary in order to sign for the Blaugrana.

Navas, 37, had offers from Saudi Arabia and Brazil in the summer but opted not to sign as he intended to continue playing at the highest level. And a move to Barça would provide him with that opportunity.

The fact that he is represented by Jorge Mendes, who has close ties at Barcelona, further counts in his favour.

Wojciech Szczesny another option

Another option for Barcelona would be former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The 34-year-old announced his retirement this summer after ending his contract with the Bianconeri, but would be willing to make a return to football if Barcelona want to sign him.

So, the final decision is up to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, as they look to shore up the goalkeeping department following Ter Stegen’s injury.
