A thunderstorm alert has been issued at the Philadelphia venue for France’s second World Cup group game against Iraq on Monday, and kick-off at 23:00 could be delayed.

According to L'Équipe, a stadium announcement at 13:40 local time warned that a severe thunderstorm was approaching, and the opening of the stands was postponed. Heavy rain then lashed the ground.

At that stage, the kick-off time had not been pushed back.

By 14:00 local time, 20:00 in France, the rain had stopped and security staff who had been told to take shelter were able to return to pitchside.

The alert was lifted at 14:28 local time, 20:28 in France, and spectators began to enter the stadium.
